    Bachelor Degree Programs (ABS) Options

    Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Marketing

    Program Synopsis


    The Bachelor in Business Administration (Honours) in Marketing is designed to equip learners with essential management acumen necessary for assuming managerial positions in private as well as public sector organizations. The curriculum is designed to produce graduates who are sensitive to the changing business environmental influences and responsive to new ideas in resolving emerging issues confronting business organizations.

    In the inherently competitive business world, the successful companies of today and tomorrow are those that internalize values such as productivity, quality, service, competence, innovation and the like. These core values are incorporated into the program.

    In order to qualify for the degree program, a minimum of 102 credit hours of courses is required. Of these, 98 credit hours are prescribed while the remaining 12 credit hours (equivalent to 4 courses) are to be chosen from the respective areas of specialization.

    Currently, the Bachelor of Business Administration program allows students the option of specializing in:
    • Marketing
    • Human Resource Management
    • Finance
    • International Business
    • Information Technology
    • General Management


    Faculty Requirement
    Students without a credit in mathematics at the SSS/SHS level or its equivalent are required to pass OUM’s Preparatory Mathematics (SBMA1103).

    Senior Secondary/High School Certificate Examination (SS/HSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) or equivalent

    With an aggregate score of 24 or better in six subjects including passes in: Three Core Subjects (including Core English, and Core Mathematics) plus Three Electives. For Engineering or Computer Science Programs, the Three electives should include Elective Mathematics and Elective Science (Physics, plus Chemistry or Biology).

    Bachelor of Hospitality Management

    Program Synopsis

    These bachelor's degree programs typically combine classroom theory with hands-on work training so students can gain practical skills and an understanding of how to successfully manage businesses within the hospitality and tourism industries.
    Graduates can be prepared to work as administrators of hotels and food-service facilities in schools, hospitals and correctional facilities. They can also work in other hospitality-related positions, including sales in the food service industry.
    The coursework investigates event management, business law, hospitality accounting and hospitality information systems. Liberal arts courses, such as history, mathematics, foreign language and social science, are typically included in the curriculum. Elective courses may be offered in travel and tourism management or gaming operations.

    Bachelor of Accounting

    Program Synopsis

    The programme is designed to fulfil the country’s need for professionals in accounting. It equips learners with a wide array of knowledge, encompassing various facets of accounting, such as financial and management accounting, auditing and finance. The programme also incorporates ICT driven courses as well as the relevant courses in business management. In designing the programme, due consideration is given to the impending impact of AFTA on the accounting profession.
    Learners are required to complete 132 credit hours of prescribed work in order to graduate. Of these 48 credit hours are basic business courses and 45 credit hours are accounting core courses. Learners are also required to undergo 6 credit hours of practical training in accounting or accounting related organisations as well as completing 6 credit hours of research project work.

    Program Synopsis

    The primary objective of the programme is to help fulfil the needs of the country for professional in tourism, the second major contributor towards foreign trade and Gross National Product. The program is designed to expand knowledge and skills in various tourism related fields such as event management, tourism planning and development, tourism psychology, and computerised booking and ticketing.

    It is envisaged that graduates of this programme would be able to help contribute towards the generation of able workforce who are capable of enhancing the professionalism and effectiveness of tourism in the country.
